I love how death and life are such a normal thing for my kids. They value and treasure living things, get excited to hunt or trap or skin them, and appreciate the warmth and beauty of the products we make them into. They understand that taking life sustains another life and they don’t take it for granted, but it is just normal to them. The way it is. I love that. In the midst of this crazy world, I am so glad that they can grow up this way. (My 5 year old) “Aww the muskrat is so cute, let me snuggle it!…. Can I help skin it?…. Are we eating this one?…Mommy make it into a stuffy for me for Christmas please?”
